Blended Basic Life Support (BLS) Level 2 (CSTF) Course

The format of this training bundle includes a detailed online course followed by a face to face assessment. Delegates must complete the e-learning element of this course prior to attending the face to face assessment. The face-face element of this course is to enable delegates to put the theory they have learned from the online course into practice and demonstrate basic life support skills, which will be assessed. The online element of the course is aligned to the Core Skills Training Framework (CSTF) Level 2. The course covers adult, paediatric basic life support, including the use of an AED and anaphylaxis. Our course is in line with current legislation, Resuscitation Council guidance. At the end of the course, the learner will be able to: • Recognise cardiorespiratory arrest • Summon immediate emergency help in accordance with local protocols • Start CPR using chest compressions • Understand current legislation and local resuscitation policies and procedures • Recognise and respond to patients with clinical deterioration, escalating care in accordance with local policy • Initiate an appropriate emergency response in accordance with the Resuscitation Council (UK) guidelines including choking and the use of the recovery position • Provide basic airway management i.e. ensure an open airway • Initiate and maintain effective chest compressions in accordance with the Resuscitation Council (UK) guidelines • Initiate and maintain effective lung ventilations in accordance with the Resuscitation Council (UK) guidelines • Operate an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) safely and appropriately • Understand individual role and responsibilities in responding to persons in an emergency situation • Understand individual responsibilities in reporting and recording details of an emergency event accurately • Understand the importance of undertaking any resuscitation interventions within the limits of their personal capabilities and context of any previous training received • Apply the local Do Not Attempt Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation Policy within a clinical context • Define the term anaphylaxis • Understand the causes of anaphylaxis • Identify the routes of entry and reaction times • Diagnose using the ABCDE assessment tool • Administer the treatment for anaphylaxis
